Frederick residents Markus Asa Thomas Marvine, 22, and Anthony Ajene Byrd, 21, are being held at the Frederick County Detention Center without bail after being busted following a lengthy investigation into gun and drug trafficking throughout the region.
Marvine was arrested on multiple charges including drug and weapon possession earlier this year and later released on a $10,000 unsecured bond in March, according to the Frederick Police Department.
Since his release, police said that members of the department’s Tactical Investigations Unit (TIU), assigned to the Baltimore Washington High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, have been investigating Marvine's actions.
During the investigation, it was determined that Marvine was “actively involved in the illegal trafficking and later distribution of marijuana and several different types of controlled dangerous substances throughout the area of Frederick County,” police said.
This month, members of the Frederick Police Department’s Special Response Team and TIU executed warrants at Marvine's home in the unit block of Waverly Drive and his vehicle, which led to the seizure of drugs and illegal weapons.
During the execution of the search warrant, investigators recovered:
- 9mm Beretta Model 96D;
- PMF P80 “Ghost Gun;”
- Steven’s Model 320 12-gauge shotgun;
- Del-Ton Inc. AR-15 with 65-round drum magazine;
- Smith & Wesson M&P;
- 614 grams of suspected marijuana;
- 420 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms;
- $3,702.00 in cash.
“The items found during the search warrants are indicative of a significant level of distribution and related to trafficking of multiple controlled dangerous substances,” Frederick Police Cpl. Scott Grisby noted.
“Through the evidence located in the course of serving the warrants, (investigators) linked Byrd, of the same address as Marvine, to the investigation.”
Both Ajene and Marvine were charged with:
- Possession with intent to distribute marijuana;
- Possession of marijuana in the amount of 614 grams;
- Possession with intent to distribute psilocybin mushrooms;
- Possession with intent to distribute Marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school zone;
- Possession with intent to distribute Psilocybin Mushrooms within 1,000 feet of a school zone;
- Firearm/Drug trafficking crime;
- Controlled Dangerous Substance: distribution with a firearm.
